Fall 2008 Student Registration
new
[Received on 5/18/2008] Detailed information about registration will arrive to students' home over the summer.

  1. Students must come in person to register for school in the fall so that we can take pictures and prepare ID cards. Students who are not available to register on the dates below may come the first day of school at 7:15 AM.
  2. Please notify the counseling office if you move over the summer so that we can send you the registration packet. You will also need to bring a new proof of residency (PG&E bill, lease agreement, sales agreement) so we can have your current address. This will assure that you receive information during the school year. If you are moving out of the district, please also notify counseling so we can send your student’s transcript to their new school.
  3. If your student did not complete a planned summer school course, please let the counseling office know so that we can make schedule adjustments before registration.
  4. Registration dates: Senior registration is Tuesday, August 19, from 8 AM to 10:30 AM. Junior registration is Tuesday, August 19, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Sophomore registration is Wednesday, August 20, from 8am to 10:30 AM. Detailed registration times by last name will arrive in the packet over the summer. Please refer to this schedule for you specific block of time in the above large allotment.

Welcome, incoming Sophomore Parents/Guardians of Class of 2011!
new
To promote communication and camaraderie among parents of your class, the Class of 2011 Listserver is available for sign up. Class listservers have been used successfully for a number of years to promote parent-to-parent communication on class-specific issues, activities and concerns as well as to facilitate Q&As between parents and counselors. DHS Counselors will start answering questions after the 9th Grade Parent Information Night on Feb 13 and 14. Melissa McDaniel, dhs2011@gmail.com, an experienced high school parent who also has an incoming sophomore will be your class' Listserver Administrator. Melissa will help organize parents' questions, eliminate repetitions, and email the counselors' answers via the listserver.

PTA meeting
All are welcome at our PTA meetings at the DHS Library. Please contact PTA President, Kathy Magrino at kmagrino@comcast.net if you have any questions regarding the PTA meeting. Agenda will be posted online about a week prior to the meeting.

Communication channels at DHS
Enjoy the various communication channels available at DHS to fit individual convenience, preference, and needs.

Help save PTA $10,000 - get your newsletter electronically
New families are encouraged to sign up for the PTA Listserver to receive the monthly newsletters and important time-sensitive announcements of relevance to parents and guardians of ALL grade levels. This is different from the unmoderated PTA's Class Listservers for parents of the same grade level. It's also different from the Daily Bulletin Listserver. Join all.

School Profile 2007-08 is online
The School Profile is a pamphlet with interesting statistical information about DHS and its students. It is compiled by the DHS Counseling Office and is sent along with the student transcript for college applications. To view, select "DHS Info" from the menu, then "School Profile".

Join the DHS community! Volunteering is a great way to get involved at DHS
Whether you can commit a lot or a little time, your contribution will help make a difference and will be greatly appreciated. See PTA's volunteer resources.

PTA "media volunteers" help disseminate information
When you send an announcement to the address at DHSPTAmedia@mailman.dcn.org (note the word "media" after DHSPTA in the address), volunteers responsible for the newsletter, listserver, website and web calendar will simultaneously receive your message and will help you disseminate it to the DHS community through the appropriate channel(s). This is a permanent address to help streamline school-wide and district-wide communications. Submitting before the newsletter deadline will ensure your message will reach all DHS families, whether they have Internet access or not. See submission guidelines. Note: Announcements for the Daily Bulletin need to be sent directly to the DHS secretary. Please DON'T send submissions for non-school events even if they are geared towards students because they won't be included in the Daily Bulletin.

Avoid missing important e-mail
If you plan to use or are using an e-mail filter, SPAM filter, or a "whitelist" (a.k.a. buddy list, safe list...), you can avoid missing out on important announcements, including the newsletters, by using the information troubleshooting.

Parking for parent volunteers
Please check in at the front desk in Administration whenever you visit campus. Please do not park in spaces marked "staff only". If time is of the essence, or you need to carry heavy items and need to be closer, the DHS administration office can issue a temporary parking permit. The district will no longer forgive tickets of people who made this mistake.
