- DHS processed over 2,200 students' registration (includes Da Vinci, DSIS and middle schools). Athletic teams. 2007 Academic Performance Index. Thanks to PTA and Friendship Day members for a great "Newcomer Reception" to welcome the new families to Davis.

- Highlights of a well-attended first PTA meeting. The next PTA meeting is October 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the DHS library. Reminder: October 1 is the deadline for providing information for your directory listing, or opting out of having your student/family listed in the DHS Directory.
- CALIFORNIA STATE PTA SCHOLARSHIP AND GRANT
- Scholarships and grants in several categories with a November 15th and February 1st deadlines available for teachers, counselors, nurses, volunteers, and high school seniors who are PTA members.
- NUGGET SCRIP CHAIRPERSON NEEDED
- Please contact PTA President Kathy Magrino if you can help. The money will be used for scholarships and awards for the students.
- PARENT ALERT!
- Starting from the next newsletter, DHS PTA won't be able to mail a hardcopy to those who have opted out of allowing PTA access to their information on DJUSD forms. To continue to receive the newsletter, please either sign up to receive it through the PTA Listserver or authorize DHS school staff to remove the block.

- Sally Springer and Marion Franck will speak on 'Calming the College Admissions Frenzy: Eight Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them' on 11/7, 7:30 PM, at the DHS Library.

- Which among the topics being considered are you interested in -- Reducing the risk of alcohol and drug use for teens; Stressed out teens - giving them the support they need; Preparing your teen for driving (logistics and safety tips); Being 18 - what your child needs to know about the rights and responsibilities of adulthood; Performance nutrition - for the student and athlete; Learning what YOU need to know about teenage sexuality? - CAREER CENTER NEWS
- Many colleges and universities from across the country will be visiting DHS throughout the fall. College Visit Schedule is available. Career Center has many resources on colleges, careers, scholarships or financial aid.
- WHAT'S NEW IN THE LIBRARY
- PTA volunteers helped distribute 9000 books in three days at the beginning of the school year. Exciting new database features available to students from home and school. Staffing change. Donation of mouse pads to replace old ones are welcome.
- PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
- Parent volunteers sought for Home Economics, Careers and Technology.
- DONATIONS NEEDED FOR PHOTOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT
- The DHS Photography Department is looking for donations of 35mm SLR Film Cameras and accessories, usable B/W darkroom equipment, and any usable digital equipment.

- Dr. Deborah Kimokeo is DJUSD's Crisis Counselor whose role is to help children, families, and even staff members, who are in crisis, either personally or as a family. Find out more about what kind of resources she provides. Book of the Month: "How to Think Like Leonardo Da Vinci".

- Senior students will find the material prepared by the DHS Counseling Office invaluable as they venture through the college application process. Includes 'Student Information Packet for Letters of Recommendation', 'How to Apply to Private Colleges/Universities', 'Notes on the College Application Process', and 'UC Personal Statement Instructions and Prompts for Fall 2008'.

- The Scholarship Bulletin is updated every two weeks by the DHS Career Center. Hardcopies are available in the Career Center, Library and Counseling Office. The PDF version is available on the PTA website.

- * WORKSHOP ON POLICE PROCEDURES - EMPHASIS ON JUVENILE LAWS
- [Community News:] The Davis Police will host a workshop which will cover law and procedures currently in effect for youth in California and the Davis Community. Topics will include the difference between adult and juvenile justice systems, consensual encounters, detentions, arrest, search seizure, making complaints, inquires & commendations. It will be held at the Davis Community Chambers, 23 Russell Boulevard, Monday, October 29, 2007 at 6:00 p.m.
