ACME THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS A CARNIVAL OF FOLLIES
[Community News:] May 23-26, 8 PM at the Davis Art Center. A free spring production featuring students from DHS and Da Vinci High School.
Come see Acme Theatre Company's free spring production of A Carnival
of Follies, an original play by retiring Artistic Director Dave
Burmester, a former DHS teacher. A lunatic pastiche of a play drawn
from such diverse sources as Shakespeare, Goldoni, the Marx Brothers,
1950's MGM musicals, and much, much more, A Carnival of Follies could
be the ultimate Spring show. So expect a thoroughly despicable
villain, a pair of fraternal twins separated in infancy, a young woman
disguised as a man, crafty servants, silly policemen, feuding parents,
a trio of colorful bandits, a helpless young duchess, a cagey
courtesan, and, of course, "the most beautiful woman in all of
Italy." There will also be lots of slamming doors, wacky
sound effects, plenty of dancing, and maybe even Fricandeau's
last hurrah. To make things perfect, this Carnival is set in "our
version" of 16th century Padua.
This production is appropriate for all ages, and features students from
Davis High School and DaVinci High School, including: Emily T., John
R., Sean O., Hope R., Ethan J., Celsiana W., Tatiana R., Billy B., Zach
S., Delany P., Anna S., Ben S., Alex K., Kate M., Torin L., Kane C.,
Geoffrey A., Vivian B., Danielle W., and Gena W.
Performances: May 23, 24, 25, 26, 2008 at 8:00 p.m.
Davis Art Center Outdoor Pavilion, corner of Covell Blvd. and F
Street.
