Site Council Minutes
Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007

Present:  Mike Cawley, Christina Bernadac, Jason Bundy, Robin Cole, Sarah O’Keefe, Linda Preciado, Clarissa Ton-Nu, Jasmine Segall, Jeffrey Carter,
Nicolette Gmoser-Daskalakis, Gail Cooluris, Susan Hulsizer, and Marty Morse
Absent: Vicki Rich, Helen Spangler, Marlene Sisemore
Visitor:  Kitty Hudson-Cawley, Phylis Jha

1)Introductions

2)  Officer Elections - all voted in favor for 2007-08 leaders
President – Susan Hulsizer, parent / community member
Vice President – Clarissa Ton-Nu, student

2) Approval of Minutes from last meeting (May 24, 2007) Sarah O’Keefe motioned, Mike Cawley seconded.  All approved.

3) Calendar Changes:  review of (draft) calendar     
a) Nov. 15 - combined mtg. w/ C & I (Curr. & Instr.), replaces Nov. 22
b) Dec. 13 - replaces Dec. 20
c) Mar. 19 - replaces Mar. 27 (spring break)
Motion for approval:  Marty Morse.  Seconded: Clarissa Ton-Nu.  All approved.

4) Achievement Gap Task Force Report:  Kitty-Hudson Cawley, Manager of Student Achievement, DJUSD

a) Kitty-Hudson Cawley gave an overview of how the district’s task force reviews various kinds of academic challenges of students from all backgrounds, risk factors relating to lack of achievement, and how to meet needs for all students.

b)  Tom McHale introduced the “Secondary School Subcommittee Report, Recommendations for Davis Senior High School” (May 30, 2007).  There are 6 main points on the list:
    A) EL Learning Center
    B) Increase in Teaching Staff FTEs
    C) Additional Counseling Time
    D) High quality, research-based staff development programs, workshops,
        and conferences
    E) Resources necessary to address tardies and absences
    F) Increased funding for Career Technical Education (CTE) Program

5)Single Plan Goals for Student Achievement 2006-07

a) Mike Cawley described the “Site WASC Action Plan Targets,” including school-site goals, and district goals
b) Mike Cawley presented a slideshow and handout, “Davis High School 2007  Academic Data, September, 2007” covering data for API, AYP, and Local Measures of Student Success

6)  Public Comment
a)  Susan Hulsizer wondered if there is a way for an informal sub-committee with Math teachers to share needs, strategies for the students who are struggling with achievement.  Sarah O’Keefe suggested thinking of ways teachers might be able to share data, ie a form vs. extended meetings.
