1) Welcome and Introductions
2) Election of Officers
2 positions filled:
- President: Susan Hulsizer, all-in-favor
- Student VP: Nicolette Gmoser-Daskalakis, all-in-favor
2) Additional Agenda Items
- “Facts About Measure W” (blue handout from DJUSD) Susan Lovenburg from the Board of Education, gave a brief overview of last year’s community fundraising, and how the measure on the November 4th ballot can instead bring funding for 3 years to Davis schools to continue school programs. Susan stated that “the relevant point is that if Measure W does not pass, then class reductions will need to occur.”
3) Approval of Minutes
- Minutes from May 22, 2008 approved
4) Calendar of Future Meetings: Tom McHale
- “Meeting Calendar Draft” presented
5) Site Council Coordinator Position Status: Mike Cawley
- in the past, 1 class period (.20 FTE) was part of the coordinator’s compensation; Mike Cawley and Sheila Smith looked at changing funding to two (2) Class 1 stipends (approx ~$8,000); nowadays, many Site Council functions are streamlined, done electronically, etc. . . . this would allow FTE funding to go to other school needs. The motion to accept the change was passed, 2 members abstaining.
6) Review of Single Plan for Student Achievement, 2007-08: Mike Cawley
- Mike Cawley briefly shared last year’s “Single Plan for Student Achievement” and there are copies available for those who need it. The plans for 2008-09 will be a focus for Site Council (date to submit ~approx. January).
7) Data Presentation: Mike Cawley
- Mike Cawley presented API / STAR Test data via digital slideshow on various student groups, subject areas, and year-to-year comparisons from 2006-2008. A copy of the “School Fact Sheet” for DHS went home to families this week.
8) WASC: Sheila Smith
- The DHS process for WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) surrounds ongoing school-site goals and improvements, and accreditation. Currently DHS is reviewing / renewing accreditation goals to submit at the end of the year, with a visiting committee from WASC coming next fall (2009) for 2-3 days to review the school’s report and to validate what DHS is doing. It is possible to have a 6-year cycle with 3-year reviews, however Shiela commented how it is preferable to have more frequent feedback from reviewers.
9) Single Plan Timeline: Tom McHale
There are 2 projects Site Council will be working on this year:
1) The Single-Plan for Student Achievement (goals TBA in upcoming meetings mid-January)
2) Allocation of SLIP (Library) funding
10) Public Comment
Next Meeting: Oct. 22, 2008 / Meeting adjourned: 4:30 pm
