Courtenay Tessler

Counselor, Outstanding Educator 2001-02

Ms. Tessler works tirelessly to provide student-centered counseling. She quickly and accurately evaluates students' needs and intercedes, when necessary, with other staff.

But Ms.Tessler's efforts do not stop in the counseling office. Ms. Tessler, along with a group of energetic students, established a Peer Helping program at DHS several years ago.

Peer Helpers offer not only conflict resolution assistance to their peer students, but assist in training and health education at the junior high schools.

In addition, Ms. Tessler played a key role last year in a "listening circle" project involving students from DHS, the junior highs and UCD to address concerns about underage drinking in our community.

This year she arranged for a parent workshop on "active listening" skills as recommended by that panel.

Ms. Tessler has also been instrumental in sponsoring a series of drug-and-alcohol-free Teen Dances at 3rd & B this year that have been fun, healthy and successful!

Ms.Tessler is the first to give all the credit to the students who organized and decorated for these dances. But she was always there to encourage, guide and support her students!

Thank you, Ms.Tessler, for the love you've shown us!
