Laurie Rollins
Outstanding Parent Volunteer 2006-07
Laurie Rollins served the Davis High School PTA as 1st Vice
President - Ways and Means in 2004-05, Executive Vice President and
Acting President in 2005-06, and President in 2006-07.
Laurie has been active as a parent volunteer in the Davis school system
for thirteen years. She was a classroom volunteer at Pioneer
Elementary, and served as School Site Council Chair at both Valley Oak
Elementary and Holmes Junior High. She participates at the
district level on the GATE Advisory Committee and the Superintendent’s
Parent Advisory Committee, as well as representing parents on numerous
DHS committees. This year she assisted in the founding of the
DJUSD PT Council, a forum for presidents of school PTAs and PTOs to
exchange information. She follows the work of the Board of
Education and advocates for our constituency as needed, and is a mentor
to those new to the system.
Laurie's style is forthright and direct. She pulls no punches and
is tireless in her commitment to give voice to the concerns of DHS
families, and to support school administrators, staff, and
teachers.
Laurie challenges our school system to do a better job of educating our
children, and most importantly, steps up first to help in doing
so. Her efforts as a member of the PTA Board have contributed to
the academic excellence of Davis High School. Laurie Rollins is,
without question, the outstanding parent volunteer of the 2006-07
school year, and we take great pleasure in nominating her for this
award.
