Minutes
Present: Sarah O'Keefe, Gail Heckemeyer, Gail
Cooluris, Tom McHale, Ajay A., Mike Cawley, Heidi Loper, Sally Ryen,
Amanda E., Rachel P.
- The Sept. 23 minutes were accepted as recorded.
- Principal's Report: Approximately $8,000-9,000 was carried over
from the preceding year from staff development. We've hired a new
industrial arts teacher named Steve Wilner at a .5 FTE. Mike Cawley
requested converting the carryover to Curriculum and Development to
make Wilner's position a 1.0 FTE. This is a one-time request, and
Cawley assured the council he would not be coming back to ask for
similar funding for this position next year. The situation arose this
year because of a teacher leaving mid-year. Sarah O'Keefe pointed out
that this position supports students who need it, and that the Site
Council is specifically directed to serve this population in the site
plan. Ajay Advani moved to transfer the carryover funds to Curriculum
and Development to augment the industrial arts teaching position. Gail
Cooluris seconded, and the motion passed by unanimous vote.
Cawley then asked the council to consider giving $1,350 to English teacher Carolyn McOmber to purchase a cart to hold a previously purchased 36" TV. The cart McOmber had ordered came with no wheels on it. She will share this one with other teachers. McOmber's reading class is primarily made up of at-risk students, and again, O'Keefe pointed out that that is a population site council is directed to serve. Tom McHale moved giving $1,350 to McOmber for the cart purchase, seconded by Rachel Perez, and passed unanimously.
- Coordinator's Report: Sarah O'Keefe said that there is $66,000
available for 2004-05 site funding, and an estimated $65,000 for
2005-06. Teachers have a March 16 deadline for submitting funding
proposals for 2005-06.
- No public comment. Heidi Loper gave a brief history of the School
Improvement Program funding. There will be no Feb. meeting, but the
March 24 meeting will be from 3-5 p.m.
- Extra business: Through a written request, journalism teacher Kelly
Wilkerson asked that a previous request for $600 for a classroom TV be
used instead to purchase a video camera for broadcast journalism. Mike
Cawley moved, Tom McHale seconded, and the group voted unanimously to
approve the change.
The meeting adjourned at 3:25 p.m.
