Davis Senior High School Site Council Minutes

Thursday, December 13, 2007

 

Present: Christina Bernadac, Jason Bundy, Susan Hulsizer, Clarissa Ton-Nu, Jasmine Segall, Mike Cawley, Jeff Carter, Robin Cole, Nicolette Gmosser-Daskalakis, Vicki Rich, Sheila Smith, Gail Cooluris, Linda Preciado

 

Absent: Helen Spangler, Sarah O’Keefe, Marlene Sisemore

 

1) Additional Agenda items:

- Tom McHale proposed a new Site Council meeting on Jan. 10(to keep original meeting on Jan. 24, TBD)  This would   allow Site Council a chance to approve the “Single Plan for Student Achievement” (SPSA) 

- Susan Hulsizer asked questions for the future for advocating with C&I (ie. funding for EL Center, ELL Classes and Sheltered Classes trying to cap numbers at 20:1 for Algebra and 24:1 for Geometry classes.)We expanded from advocating just for math to also advocating for EL classes and Sheltered English and the EL Center positionThis information will be shared with staff.

- Vicki Rich announced that teachers will have access to grade data going back to 2001, and may have to see Loyla to add access if a new teacher, or for access to grades in prior years

 

2) Approval of Minutes from 11/29

            - All approved

 

3) Discussion of changing bylaws regarding Site Council Membership

            - Gail Cooluris delivered the handout “DHS Site Council Bylaws - Draft revisions 12/07”

A “strikeout version” and updated version were presented. Several changes were discussed

            Changes would go into effect with the 2008-09 school year

 

            - Motion to accept 12/07 Amendments to Post as Draft (All Approved)

           

4) Discussion of Single Plan for Student Achievement

            - Mike Cawley provided (Draft 12/07) of packet “The Single Plan for Student Achievement” which “is a plan of actions to raise the academic performance of all students” and relates to specific California state education goals.  The report is now a draft, and includes goals areas, action titles / tasks, measures, estimated costs / funding sources / related expenses.

Examples of “Actions” in this draft:

“Algebra I Class Size Reduction”

“Reduce Geometry Class Size to 24:1, in 2008-2009”

“Reduce Algebra 1 Class Size to 20:1 in 2008-09”

“Develop Abridged and Unabridged Audio Library”

“EL Center Coordinator”

“EL Center Curriculum Resources/Instructional Materials”

“Staff Development for effective educational strategies for at-risk students”

“Instructional Materials and Supplies to Support At-Risk Students”

“Site Council Coordinator”

“Friendship Day Support”

“Support Student Clubs, Academic Competition Teams, and Field Trips”

“Staff Proposals to Improve Student Connectedness”

 

- Questions for categories in the draft for some “Goal Areas” and “Actions” were discussed
